According to Icelandic law, parking is only allowed in areas specially marked as parking spaces in Reykjavik. Any vehicles parked in areas other than official parking zones will receive a fine. Vehicles parked illegally and blocking traffic for the police, fire brigade or ambulances will be removed at the owner’s cost!
Transport
TAXI
You can locate taxis in four areas in the outskirt of the festival area. By Hallgrímskirkja, at Skúlagata, at BSÍ and by Landakotskirkja parking lot.
After 9 pm Taxi’s by Skúlagata will move to another location, to Old Hringbraut (Bus terminal, BSI) by the end of Njarðargata.
PARKING FOR DISABLED
Main parking for disabled will be located at Hallgrímskirkja. Those with a P- Sign in their automobiles can also park at two specially marked areas within the festival area:
At the corner of Suðurgata and Túngata and then at Skúlagata by the Ministry of Fisheries, please enter by driving Barónsstígur through Hverfisgata.
CITY BUS (STRÆTÓ)
During Culture Night our city Bus, Strætó, is FREE OF CHARGE and will run on traditional schedule until 10:30pm. From 11pm the main focus will be on transferring guests from the down town area to the suburbs. Last journeys will be at 1am. We encourage everybody to use the buses, as central Reykjavik will be closed to all motor vehicles. Buses will stop on Sæbraut/Katrínartún below Höfði House and run to and from Hlemmur bus station. SHUTTLES
Park further away to get closer! Special shuttle buses will operate for those who want to get quickly and safely into the middle of the festival. Shuttles will operate from 07:30pm, directly from Laugardalshöll, driving along Borgartún and Hlemmur bus stop ending at Hallgrímskirkja. The shuttle stations will be marked. Here are some ideas for parking places: Borgartún - University of Iceland - Grandi. Indoor parking at Höfðatorg is open until 1am at the usual charge. From those areas, locating a nearby Strætó city bus stop is easy and the ride to central Reykjavik and back again is free of charge during the festival.
